Transfer rumours are circling the big leagues in Europe as the continent’s richest teams seek to do deals.
Real Madrid and Manchester United are both on the lookout for top players before their respective league campaigns start.
And this is possibly the most farfetched rumour to date.
Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport have been projecting how a particular chain deals could be strung out, with the result that Paul Pogba joins PSG.
According to the report, it all stems from Luka Modric’s request to move to Inter Milan.
Modric has asked Real for permission to speak to Inter and is hoping to complete a deal before the summer is out.
And Gazzetta claim that, should the transfer go through, it will trigger a chain of other moves.
Modric leaving the Bernabeu would mean Real entering the market for a replacement.
And they will look to buy Miralem Pjanic from Juventus, it is claimed.
Juve would be willing to do business over Pjanic because they in turn are eyeing a move for Lazio’s Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.
And the proposed transfer saga doesn’t stop there. Gazzetta reckon that AC Milan want Milinkovic-Savic but would be unable to rival Juve in a bidding war over the player.
Therefore, Milan will push to sign PSG midfielder Adrian Rabiot, who is free to leave at the right price.
And what would PSG do then? Move for Pogba, Gazzetta claim.
Apparently Pogba’s relationship with Jose Mourinho has broken down so much the United boss is willing to sell.
However, Manchester United would only countenance offloading Pogba if they had time to sign a replacement – so it would have to be before Thursday’s Premier League transfer deadline.
Therefore, the chances of all these deals going through before the Premier League shuts its window are slim to none.
However, Pogba departing United could happen in another window, with next summer set to be decisive if the Red Devils still have not won either the Premier League or Champions League.
As for the other proposed transfers, Modric to Inter looks likely and Rabiot is seeking an exit from PSG.
But the idea of Pjanic leaving Juventus at this stage of the summer and anyone stumping up the £70m Lazio are demanding for Milinkovic-Savic is difficult to comprehend.
