Suicide Squad 2 release date, cast, and more - All you need to know including THIS update | Films | Entertainment

The Suicide Squad sequel has been gifted the talent of James Gunn.

Gunn was fired by Disney when controversial tweets from the early 2000s resurfaced.

Since then, it was rumoured he may be brought back on to direct a future Marvel movie.

However, those rumours have been quashed with the recent announcement that Gunn has signed on as a writer, and potential director, for Suicide Squad 2.

When is the Suicide Squad 2 release date?

Initial reports stated Suicide Squad 2 had a release of sometime in November 2019.

However, that date seems unlikely given the behind the scenes changes.

Warner Bros already had plans for Suicide Squad 2, but those may be thrown out the window with the recent hiring of James Gunn.

The DC Comics inspired movie may fair better with a veteran like Gunn behind the camera.

Who stars in Suicide Squad 2?

Despite Jared Leto’s controversial take on the Joker, he will be back for the sequel.

Will Smith and Margot Robbie are likewise reported to be returning as Deadshot and Harley Quinn respectively.

Joel Kinnaman told The Hollywood Reporter that he fully expects he will reprise his role as Rick Flag for the sequel.

From the original Suicide Squad, there is no confirmation on Karen Fukuhara (Katana), Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje (Killer Croc), Jai Courtney (Captain Boomerang), or Viola Davis (Amanda Waller).

Rumours abound that Jay Hernandez could return as El Diablo after a VFX clip suggested the original plan was for his survival.

Dwayne Johnson may also appear, as his villain Black Adam from the upcoming Shazam movie is set to debut in April 2019.

But all of this could change with the addition of Gunn to the mix if he chooses to rewrite and recast the characters.

Dave Bautista, of Guardians of the Galaxy fame, is one of Gunn’s most vocal supporters and has expressed his interest via Twitter in signing up for Suicide Squad 2.

What is the plot of Suicide Squad 2?

Your guess is as good as anybody else’s.

Warner Bros has let nary a detail slip about the potential plot and with James Gunn on board to write, whatever was rumoured to be included could go out the window.

Initial thoughts were the plot would follow on the same template: Amanda Waller sends the squad out on a mission and all hell breaks loose.

However, the hiring of Gunn implies the previous Suicide Squad 2 script from Gavin O’Connor and Todd Stashwick is being abandoned.

Is there a trailer?

Not yet, but keep your eye on this space for when one is finally released.
