In the final frames of the film, Nick Fury is seen making contact with Carol Danvers, who will be played by Brie Larson when she finally makes her on-screen debut in 2019.
But was there another reference to her elsewhere in the film?
Eagle-eyed Marvel buffs on Reddit – as noticed by ScreenRant – have spotted that Black Order member Cull Obsidian seems to have a cloth matching the Captain Marvel design.
The posted screen-grab is from the scene in which he and Ebony Maw are facing MCU heroes such as Doctor Strange and Tony Stark.
The cloth is primarily red and blue, with a double yellow line in the middle that matches the Captain Marvel logo.
What exactly this means is unclear: will we see Cull somehow tie-in to the 1990s-set Captain Marvel movie? Or is it just an Easter Egg?
Reddit user Modification102 said: “I think a reasonable assumption is that Cull Obsidian has a personal tie to the same faction that Captain Marvel is aligned with.
“So Cull is not referencing Captain Marvel specifically, rather CM & Cull Obsidian are both referencing a different organisation.”
JonSnow31391 suggested: “maybe ebony maw defeats her in some way. He’s never disappointed thanos.
“Maybe her ending is bittersweet, and she has to deal herself away to prevent a disaster while maw gets away with the location of a stone or something.
“This would also give her a beef with thanos, and provide some emotional resonance [when] she joins the team to fight him. Obviously it is cooler when heroes have a vendetta against the villain.”
